Contemporary Art

Contemporary art is the art of today, produced in the second half of the 20th century and in the 21st century. Contemporary artists work in a globally influenced, culturally diverse, and technologically advancing world. Some of the art forms Contemporary art includes are; Minimalism, Pop Art, Conceptualism, Contemporary Realism, Graffiti Art and more.

Abstract Art

Art that does not attempt to represent external reality, but seeks to achieve its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures. As a catalyst for contemporary art, abstract painting rejected the “rules” of traditional art. Rather than focus on figurative and representational depictions, abstract painters placed emphasis on color, composition, and emotion.

Modern Art

Modern art includes artistic work produced during the period extending roughly from the 1860s to the 1970s, and denotes the styles and philosophy of the art produced during that era. The term is usually associated with art in which the traditions of the past have been thrown aside in a spirit of experimentation. Modernist Art has mainly two characteristics, that are abstract art and expressionism. Other modern art characteristics also include minimal art, pop art, surrealism, cubism, and expressionism.

Action Painting

/ˈakSHən ˌpān(t)iNG
noun
a technique and style of abstract painting in which paint is randomly splashed, thrown, or poured on the canvas. It was made famous by Jackson Pollock, and formed part of the more general movement of abstract expressionism.

Automatism

aw-tom-uh-tiz-uh m
a method of producing pictorial art, as paintings and collages, associated chiefly with the surrealists, in which the artist strives to allow the impulses of the unconscious to guide the hand in matters of line, color, and structure without the interference of conscious choice thus creating art without conscious thought
and accessing material from the unconscious mind as part of the creative process.
